The Ghost Ranch find in New Mexico yielded hundreds of fossilised Coelophysis skeletons in what appeared to be a mass grave. It's believed that they died of thirst at a dried-up water source, a flash flood burying and preserving the bodies. The presence of so many bodies in the same area suggests that the cannibalistic tendencies of Coelophysis were an exception and that the small theropod may have hunted larger animals in packs.
